Actor Idris Elba received some unexpected basketball coaching from WNBA star Angel Reese while filming their upcoming movie A House of Dynamite.
Reese, 23, told PEOPLE that she shared her basketball skills with the 53-year-old actor between takes. “We were shooting baskets … and I was teaching him a few things too, so it was really fun,” she said.
Elba, known for roles in Luther and Heads of State, encouraged Reese on set as well. “Stay confident. Be yourself. Have fun,” he advised the basketball star during filming.
The film, directed by Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, marks Reese’s feature film debut. Elba said he was honored to work with Bigelow and challenged by playing an American president as a British actor. “Playing the president was a challenge, but I wanted to bring a human side to this character,” he explained.
A House of Dynamite also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke. It will be released in theaters on October 10 and available on Netflix starting October 24.
