Director Steven Soderbergh has opened up about his unmade “Star Wars” project, The Hunt for Ben Solo, saying he did not enjoy keeping it a secret from fans.
The film, which would have followed Adam Driver’s character Kylo Ren, also known as Ben Solo, on a quest for redemption after The Rise of Skywalker, was revealed when Driver discussed it in a recent interview with the Associated Press.
“For the record, I did not enjoy lying about the existence of THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO, but it really did need to remain a secret…until now!” Soderbergh wrote on BlueSky. He added that, to his knowledge, the project was the first time a finished “Star Wars” script had been rejected by Lucasfilm before Disney’s greenlight.
Driver described the unmade film as “one of the coolest” projects he has ever been part of. Soderbergh previously told AP that he “really enjoyed making the movie in his head” and expressed regret that fans would not get to see it.
The project has inspired fan reactions, including a recent stunt in which a plane towing a banner reading “Save The Hunt for Ben Solo” flew over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.
