Veteran rapper Pusha T has finally weighed in on Kendrick Lamar’s sly name-drop of him on the track “Euphoria,” which took shots at Drake amid the rappers’ long-simmering beef.
In the song from Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, Kendrick raps “Let me see you push a T,” using a play on words to reference Pusha T’s explosive 2018 feud with Drake. The line caught the attention of hip-hop fans given the iconic nature of Pusha’s scathing diss track “The Story of Adidon” which revealed Drake’s secret son.
In a new interview with Vulture, Pusha T was asked directly about Kendrick’s bar on “Euphoria.” Before he could respond, his brother No Malice jumped in calling Kendrick’s verse “a master class” in rapping.
Pusha agreed, stating “Incredible. Incredible display. Incredible display of battle raps. Listen man, Kendrick…”
The context around the rappers’ history adds weight to Pusha’s praise. His feud with Drake initially stemmed from Pusha’s issues with Lil Wayne in the mid-2000s, which eventually roped Drake in through subliminal disses on tracks like “Exodus 23:1” and “Tuscan Leather.
But it was Pusha’s 2018 diss track “The Story of Adidon” that truly changed the landscape, damaging Drake’s reputation by leaking information about his secret son that the public wasn’t aware of.
Given how messy and personal that chapter was, Pusha’s nod of respect to Kendrick for referencing it isn’t surprising. The Virginia rapper has made clear he has no plans to reconcile with Drake after their feud reached such toxic levels.
