While many Game Of Thrones fans have only just recovered from the ending of the original show, the epic prequel House Of The Dragon quickly took over our lives.
Now that the first season has concluded, there is one question on everyone’s mind: is there going to be a House Of The Dragon season two? Here’s everything we know so far.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Release Date
According to reports, House of the Dragon season 2 is set to premiere in June 2024. This timeline was first hinted at by Variety, which stated HBO was looking at a summer 2024 release.
The head of global streaming and games for Warner Bros Discovery, JB Perrette, then shared a more specific window, revealing during a media conference on March 4th, 2024 that the new season would land in June 2024.
Finally, on March 22nd, 2024, streaming service NOW confirmed the highly anticipated second season would arrive in the UK on June 17th, 2024.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Trailer
The first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 dropped on December 2nd, 2023.
It teased the impending conflict between Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the newly crowned Aegon II, Rhaenyra’s half-brother, against Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) over control of the Iron Throne.
In March 2024, two additional trailers emerged: “The Black Trailer” and “The Green Trailer,” showcasing the perspectives of each side in the upcoming battle.
The former features Rhaenyra declaring her intent to “fight this war – and win it,” while the latter has Alicent stating “Viserys wanted Aegon to succeed him.”
Filming of House of the Dragon Season 2
Filming for House of the Dragon season 2 commenced on April 11th, 2023, as announced on the show’s official Twitter account. New showrunner Ryan Condal expressed excitement to be “shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera.”
Principal photography wrapped in September 2023, according to Variety reports. Notably, the production was able to continue during the WGA and SAG strikes as the scripts were completed before the writers’ strike began, and filming occurred under a UK union contract.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode Count
While the first season consisted of 10 episodes, director Clare Kilner has revealed that season 2 will be slightly shorter, comprising 8 episodes. However, she assured fans that those 8 episodes will be “jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events.”
