A man is said to be lucky to be alive after falling from a Jet2 plane at Manchester Airport on Saturday morning. The incident left him with serious injuries and triggered an immediate emergency response.

Crews were called to the scene at around 8.22am. The man, believed to be in his 60s, was a third-party contractor working on the aircraft before it was due to depart to Tenerife.

According to a witness who spoke to The Sun, the man opened the wrong door on the aircraft, not realising the steps were on the other side. Strong winds and the weight of the door are said to have pulled him out face first.

The drop from the aircraft was around 35 feet. The witness said the man tried to brace himself on the way down, which is likely what caused his injuries.

Reports say the man broke both legs, both elbows and his eye sockets, and also dislocated his shoulder. He remains in hospital in Manchester. At least six ambulances attended the scene.

Jet2 confirmed the incident involved a person from a third-party provider and said a full investigation has been launched. The airline added that it is offering support to everyone involved.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed crews were called to reports of someone falling from height. A spokesperson said a male patient was taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries.
