Justin Bieber’s first time headlining Coachella has left people seriously divided. Some fans praised the singer for returning to the stage, while others called the set one of the worst in the festival’s history.
Bieber performed on day two of the event and mixed newer songs with older hits like Stay and Never Say Never. But it was not just the music that got people talking.
During the set, Bieber appeared on stage with a mic and a laptop. At one point, he sat at a desk and watched old YouTube clips of himself, including embarrassing moments from earlier in his career.
He also played the ‘deez nuts’ meme on the big screen, which got laughs from the crowd. On top of that, he reportedly let fans help choose songs through a live stream chat during the performance.
That unusual setup led to a wave of reaction online. One person said people had paid to watch Bieber browse his own content, while another called it the “worst Coachella performance of all time”.
Others criticised the show for having little production, no outfit changes and no backup dancers. Some viewers said it felt more messy than creative.
Still, not everyone agreed. Many fans defended Bieber and said the performance felt personal and honest, especially after he has spent years away from the spotlight dealing with health and personal struggles.
Supporters said they were just happy to see him back on stage and performing again. For them, strong vocals and a relaxed atmosphere mattered more than flashy visuals or big festival theatrics.
