A mystery AI model has appeared online and developers cannot stop talking about it.

The model, called Hunter Alpha, showed up on AI platform OpenRouter on March 11 with no creator listed. The platform later described it as a “stealth model.” No company has claimed it.

Many developers believe it could be an early version of DeepSeek’s next big release. DeepSeek is a fast-growing Chinese AI startup. Reports say it plans to launch a powerful new model called V4 as soon as April.

When tested, Hunter Alpha said it is “a Chinese AI model primarily trained in Chinese.” It also said its knowledge runs up to May 2025. That matches the cutoff date used by DeepSeek’s current chatbot.

The model claims to have 1 trillion parameters. That means it uses around one trillion adjustable values to generate answers. It also says it can handle up to 1 million tokens at once, which allows it to remember and process huge amounts of text in a single chat.

Experts say that level of memory and reasoning usually costs a lot of money. But Hunter Alpha is currently free to use. One engineer said the mix of strong reasoning, massive memory, and free access is what makes it stand out.

Some developers say the model’s reasoning style looks similar to DeepSeek’s systems. Others are not convinced. One AI tester said there are technical differences that suggest it may not be DeepSeek V4.

Anonymous launches like this are common in the AI world. Companies often test models quietly to get honest feedback. Since appearing online, Hunter Alpha has already processed more than 160 billion tokens, showing just how much attention it has gained.
