Winona Ryder is officially joining the cast of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday for its third season. The move reunites her with director Tim Burton and co-star Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams.
Ryder will guest-star in multiple episodes, though details about her character are being kept secret. Tim Burton said she “fits right into this world” and called her a “dear friend.” Showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar also praised her addition to the Nevermore Academy universe.
The casting continues a decades-long collaboration between Ryder and Burton, from her breakout role as Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice (1988) to Edward Scissorhands (1990) and the 2024 Beetlejuice sequel. Ryder’s gothic and dramatic range makes her a natural fit for the darkly comedic show.
Ryder’s career includes iconic roles in Heathers, Little Women, Girl, Interrupted, Black Swan, Stranger Things, and more. Fans say she brings a perfect mix of mystery, humor, and gothic charm to Wednesday.
Season 3 is filming in Ireland and promises new mysteries, supernatural intrigue, and more of Nevermore Academy. Returning stars include Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Fred Armisen, and Joanna Lumley.
New additions include Eva Green as Morticia’s estranged sister Ophelia, plus Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer in undisclosed roles. Fans are already speculating Ryder could play a quirky relative or a mysterious faculty member.
No release date has been set yet, but anticipation is building. Ryder’s arrival adds star power and strengthens the show’s signature gothic vibe, promising more macabre mischief for Season 3.
