An intelligence officer has issued a strong warning after Elon Musk encouraged people to upload their medical information to his AI platform, Grok.
Musk suggested on X that users could get a “second opinion” by taking a picture of their medical records or uploading files to the AI.
Grok, however, has a controversial history. The platform has previously produced offensive content and other unsafe outputs, leading experts to caution against sharing sensitive personal information.
Former intelligence officer Travis Akers wrote on X: “Nobody, and I repeat, absolutely nobody should ever upload their medical information into an AI platform. I am telling you this as a former intelligence officer.”
Experts also warn about potential data breaches. Unlike real doctors, AI systems like Grok are not bound by medical privacy laws, meaning sensitive information could be misused or leaked.
Bradley Malin, professor of biomedical informatics at Vanderbilt University, told the New York Times: “Posting personal information to Grok is more like, ‘Wheee! Let’s throw this data out there, and hope the company is going to do what I want them to do.’”
While AI has made strides in recent years, experts emphasize that it cannot replace a human doctor for intimate or critical health issues. Users are urged to prioritize professional medical advice over experimental AI tools.
