Apple users are beginning to receive payments from a $95 million settlement tied to a major privacy lawsuit. The case claimed Siri recorded private conversations without users’ consent.
The lawsuit was first filed in 2019. Plaintiffs said Apple and Google recorded conversations even when users did not say “Hey Siri” or “OK Google.” Some claimed those recordings were shared to help deliver targeted ads.
Several users reported seeing ads linked to things they had discussed privately. Examples included shopping for Air Jordan sneakers, eating at Olive Garden and even a medical treatment discussed with a doctor.
Apple has denied any wrongdoing. The company said it settled the case to avoid further legal costs and said it had already addressed concerns related to Siri privacy in 2019.
To qualify for payment, users had to own a Siri-enabled device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024. Eligible devices include iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and Macs.
Users could claim up to $20 per device. Payments were limited to five devices, meaning the maximum payout is $100.
Many users have now reported receiving money directly into their bank accounts. So far, payments appear to range between about $8 and $40, depending on how many valid claims were approved.
