Chrissy Teigen has shared why she chose to speak openly about using the medication Ozempic, following her struggles after a miscarriage.
The 39-year-old model and cookbook author told PEOPLE at Hello Sunshine’s Shine Away event that her decision was motivated by a desire for transparency. She said she hoped her honesty would help fans “feel a lot better about themselves” and their families.
Teigen revealed on the Self-Conscious podcast that she began taking the GLP-1 medication after struggling to lose weight following the miscarriage of her son Jack in 2020.
She described experiencing a “deep depression of seeing this pregnant belly with no baby in it” and noted she had gained around 40 pounds she was uncomfortable with.
In discussing her experience, Teigen said she wants her four children, shared with husband John Legend, to feel free to talk openly about insecurities and personal choices.
She emphasized that her decision to use Ozempic was about her own well-being, not perfection, and encouraged people to make choices that make them feel healthy and proud.
Teigen acknowledged ongoing criticism of her appearance, noting that public reactions are often contradictory and that personal decisions about her body are made for herself.
