Prince Harry Upset After Critics Link Meghan’s Video to Princess Diana

Meghan Markle + Prince Harry

Prince Harry has reportedly been left “hurt and upset” following criticism of his wife, Meghan Markle, after she shared a video from Paris that some said evoked memories of Princess Diana.

The Duchess of Sussex posted an Instagram video while riding in a car through Paris with her feet up. Critics suggested the clip was insensitive because it appeared she was near the Pont d’Alma tunnel, the site where Harry’s mother died in 1997.

Friends of Meghan told The Daily Mail that she was not near the tunnel and that the negative reaction was unfair. A source said Harry felt frustrated but not surprised, describing the situation as a “joke, but not a very funny one.”

A source close to the Duke of Sussex told PEOPLE that Harry remains determined to protect his wife and family from unkind and agenda-driven media narratives.

Meghan, 44, attended Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, making her debut at the Balenciaga show. She has long expressed her admiration for Paris, describing it as romantic and full of charm in her former lifestyle blog, The Tig.

Prince Harry, 41, has previously recounted in his memoir Spare the emotional impact of driving through the Pont d’Alma tunnel in 2007, years after his mother’s death. Harry has also spoken about the similarities between Meghan and Diana, noting her compassion, empathy, confidence, and warmth.
