Original horror films are thriving at the 2025 box office, with Sinners, Weapons, Together, and Bring Her Back achieving both critical acclaim and strong ticket sales.

Topping the list is Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, which has grossed $365.9 million worldwide. With a 97% critic approval rating, it is now the highest-grossing original horror film of the 2020s and among the top five highest-grossing horror films of all time.

Praised for its cinematography, layered storytelling, and cultural themes, Sinners earned $278.6 million domestically and $87.3 million internationally, maintaining strong theatrical performance despite streaming availability.

Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger, holds a 95% critic rating and has made $70 million worldwide. It marked Warner Bros.’ sixth consecutive film to open at number one with over $40 million. Critics highlighted its mystery and tense atmosphere, although some cited pacing issues and a less impactful antagonist.

Together, a body horror film from distributor Neon, scored 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned over $10 million domestically. Featuring Alison Brie and Dave Franco, it has been praised for its direction and performances, becoming one of Neon’s highest-grossing original horror releases this year.

A24’s Bring Her Back, with an 89% critic score, has taken in more than $15 million worldwide and is on track to become the studio’s highest-grossing horror film of 2025.

Industry analysts say the success of these films shows that original horror remains a strong draw for audiences, even in a market crowded with franchise releases.
