ChatGPT-5 Still Missing as Sam Altman Warns Users of Possible Service Hiccups

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has suggested that the launch of ChatGPT-5 may be delayed, despite earlier expectations of an early August release.

In a recent post on X, Altman said, “We have a ton of stuff to launch over the next couple of months — new models, products, features, and more,” but made no mention of an immediate ChatGPT-5 rollout.

Many had predicted that the next generation of OpenAI’s chatbot would launch at the beginning of August, but as of now, no official release has been confirmed.

Altman also warned users to expect some disruptions. “Please bear with us through some probable hiccups and capacity crunches,” he wrote, suggesting temporary slowdowns or service issues may affect ChatGPT users in the near future. “Although it may be slightly choppy, we think you’ll really love what we’ve created for you!”

These comments come as some users report limits to features like daily image uploads. One long-time Plus subscriber claimed they were capped at 30 image uploads per day without warning — though others say they’ve had no issues, pointing to a possible bug or early symptom of system strain.

ChatGPT-5 is rumored to bring major upgrades, including improved accuracy, speed, and the ability to automatically choose the best model for each task. It’s unclear if the release will be exclusive to Plus users or available to everyone.

For now, Altman is asking users to stay patient. While a release may still happen later in August, nothing is guaranteed.
