Netflix’s surprise hit animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, is set to get two sequels, according to a new report from The Wrap.
The original movie broke records as Netflix’s most-watched animated film ever and topped multiple music charts with its KPop soundtrack. Its success has led Netflix to plan a trilogy, with KPop Demon Hunters 2 and 3 already in the works.
The film tells the story of musicians who use the power of music to fight demons. When the demons fight back with their own KPop music, a fierce battle for the soul of the world begins. The soundtrack features hit songs like “Golden” by the hero band HUNTR/X and “Your Idol” by the villain band Saja Boys.
Netflix is also considering other projects related to KPop Demon Hunters, including a live-action remake and possibly even a stage musical. This would be a first for a Netflix series.
The original movie’s popularity continues to grow. Even six weeks after its release, KPop Demon Hunters hit new viewership peaks, a rare feat in streaming.
The film is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind the acclaimed Spider-Verse movies. While fans wait eagerly, the timeline for the sequels and other projects is still unknown.
