Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG Starfield may finally launch on PlayStation 5 in spring 2026, according to a new report from MP1st. The news arrives as fans grow frustrated with the lack of major updates or new content in 2025.
When Starfield released in 2023, Bethesda promised annual expansions similar to what it did with Fallout 4 and Skyrim. So far, only one major DLC, Shattered Space, has been released—and it left many fans disappointed.
Instead of offering space travel and exploration, Shattered Space kept players on a single planet with a short, 8-hour campaign. Reviews on Steam remain mixed, with a user score of just 51% positive.
Now, insiders say Bethesda is holding off on Starfield’s second expansion until its PS5 debut. Alongside the DLC, players can expect several quality-of-life updates aimed at improving gameplay and performance.
Bethesda director Todd Howard had previously said the team was working on a second expansion with a scope similar to Fallout 4’s Far Harbor, but no details have been released in 2025.
With the game’s player base shrinking and criticism growing, the PS5 launch could be Starfield’s last chance to win back interest and reshape its reputation.
