Netflix’s sci-fi hit 3 Body Problem is expanding its cast as production begins on Season 2 in Budapest, Hungary. The acclaimed adaptation of Cixin Liu’s bestselling trilogy continues with new cast members and returning favorites, and promises even greater stakes as an alien invasion draws near.

Alfie Allen, best known for his role as Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, joins the series in a recurring role. Also added to the cast are veteran actor David Yip (The Chinese Detective) and Jordan Sunshine (Wonder Pets). They join previously announced newcomers Claudia Doumit and Ellie De Lange.

Directors Miguel Sapochnik and Jeremy Podeswa, both of whom worked on Game of Thrones, will return to direct and executive produce Season 2.

What to Expect in Season 2

Plot details remain tightly under wraps, with the official synopsis simply stating:

“As the alien invasion nears, humanity prepares — on Earth and elsewhere.”

The show’s creators — Game of Thrones alumni David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo — promise a more ambitious continuation.
Benioff previously said, “The second book is far better than the first… the story takes a huge leap. If we survive to the second season, we’re going to be in a good place.”

A Hit for Netflix

Season 1 of 3 Body Problem debuted to critical acclaim and spent multiple weeks atop Netflix’s global TV chart. Netflix has greenlit both Season 2 and Season 3, which are expected to complete the epic trilogy adaptation.

The production team includes big industry names like Brad Pitt, Rosamund Pike, Rian Johnson, and Bernadette Caulfield, among others.

While no release date has been set, a 2026 premiere for Season 2 is likely.
