Trump first mentioned the idea of pardoning Combs during a May 30, 2025, press conference, saying he would “look at the facts” if Combs was treated unfairly. Recent reports and posts on X (formerly Twitter) indicate that Trump is now seriously considering clemency before Combs’ sentencing later this year.
Trump and Combs share a past connection, having appeared together at events like the 1997 US Open and a 2005 gala at Mar-a-Lago. However, Trump said their friendship ended after Combs publicly criticized him when Trump entered politics.
The possible pardon has sparked debate. Rapper 50 Cent, a longtime rival of Combs, urged Trump not to pardon him, reminding Trump of Combs’ harsh comments about him.
