Blackpink’s Jennie has revealed the heartfelt inspiration behind her hit song like JENNIE in an interview with Elle Korea. The track, part of her solo album Ruby, serves as an anthem of self-love and confidence, encouraging listeners to embrace their unique identities.
Jennie explained that the song’s title uses her name as a universal stand-in. “In like JENNIE, ‘JENNIE’ is just a pronoun,” she said. “I made this song to convey the message that anyone who names themselves can love themselves and shine in their own way.” She hopes fans singing the song will feel empowered and validated in their personal journeys.
The singer also reflected on the challenges and growth she experienced while creating Ruby. “I learned and felt so many things while preparing for this solo full-length album,” Jennie said. “I felt that I had become a little stronger.”
She added that her solo work has deepened her connection with her Blackpink bandmates, making the group “more flexible and mature” as they embark on their Deadline World Tour.
The tour, which kicked off on July 5 at Goyang Stadium in South Korea, follows the success of Blackpink’s Born Pink tour, which drew 1.8 million fans. The stadium-only Deadline tour will visit 13 cities, including New York, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, before concluding in January 2026.
Jennie’s message of resilience and self-acceptance continues to resonate with fans worldwide, solidifying her influence both as a solo artist and a member of Blackpink.
