Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ Beats Superman’s Opening Day, Second Largest of 2025

The Fantastic Four First Steps

Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps had a strong domestic opening day, earning approximately $57 million including preview screenings. This marks the second biggest opening day of 2025, just behind A Minecraft Movie, which made $57.11 million. The film also edged past DC Studios’ Superman, which debuted with $56.1 million two weeks earlier.

The movie opened in 4,125 theaters, including premium formats such as IMAX, contributing to its high attendance. It garnered $24.4 million from Thursday previews, the largest preview total of the year so far, surpassing Superman’s $22.5 million preview earnings.

Early audience reactions have been positive, with an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score and an “A-” CinemaScore, signaling strong word-of-mouth potential. Industry projections estimate the domestic opening weekend to reach between $100 million and $110 million, with international earnings expected to add another $90 million to $100 million. This would give the film a global debut around $190 million to $210 million.

With a production budget exceeding $200 million and over $100 million spent on marketing, maintaining momentum will be crucial for the film’s long-term success. Analysts note that while Superman had strong cultural appeal in the U.S., Fantastic Four benefits from significant international interest, partly due to the franchise’s legacy under 20th Century Fox.

Overall, The Fantastic Four: First Steps stands as one of Marvel’s most commercially promising releases in recent years and is engaged in a close box office race with other major superhero films of 2025.
