Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning will be released on digital platforms on August 19, following an underwhelming box office performance despite positive reviews.

Paramount Pictures confirmed the digital release date for the eighth and final installment of Tom Cruise’s action franchise, which premiered in theaters on May 23. The film will include extensive bonus features, including behind-the-scenes content, director commentary, and deleted footage.

The movie, one of the most expensive films ever made with a production budget of around $400 million, failed to become a commercial hit despite critical acclaim. It holds an 80% critics score and 88% audience score on review aggregator sites, but has earned only $588.6 million worldwide against its massive budget.

The film needed over $1 billion at the box office to break even due to its high production costs. While it achieved a franchise-best opening weekend of $64 million domestically, surpassing the previous record set by Mission: Impossible – Fallout, it fell well short of profitability expectations.

The digital release will feature comprehensive bonus content exploring the film’s ambitious stunts and production challenges. This includes footage of Tom Cruise’s Guinness World Record for most jumps with a burning parachute, as well as detailed looks at the biplane sequences, underwater scenes, and Arctic filming conditions.

Physical releases will follow on October 14, 2025, available on 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray SteelBook, standard Blu-ray, and DVD formats. The film is expected to arrive on Paramount+ streaming service around the same time.

The Final Reckoning continues the storyline from 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, with Ethan Hunt facing a rogue AI threat in what Cruise has described as the franchise’s conclusion.

The cast includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Angela Bassett, with Christopher McQuarrie returning as writer and director.
