Former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson says he has been staying off social media due to hurtful online comments about his personal life and family. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday morning (July 15), the British singer explained his recent absence from the platform.

Tomlinson said the last few months have been especially difficult because of online speculation and criticism about his relationships, his eight-year-old son Freddie Reign Tomlinson, and even his late mother.

“The last few months have made it impossible to be on here,” he wrote. “All the conspiracy chat about my relationship, my son, or even stretching sometimes to opinions on my Mum. It’s just too much and too hurtful for me to see! Thank you to everyone who always has my back!”

Tomlinson did not specify which comments or rumors upset him, but many fans responded to his post with supportive messages. Some criticized the online culture that spreads personal opinions and false narratives about celebrities’ lives. One fan wrote, “No one has ever walked in your shoes and will never understand what you have been through.”

Tomlinson has not officially confirmed his current relationship, though some British media outlets have speculated that he is dating a well-known reality star and documentary filmmaker.

The singer has faced personal tragedies in recent years. His mother, Johannah Deakin, died from leukemia in 2016, and his sister, Félicité Tomlinson, passed away in 2019 due to an accidental overdose.

Musically, Tomlinson has not released a new album since Faith in the Future in 2022. However, he continues to perform live. Recently, he played at the Ejekt Festival in Athens on July 9 and at ZOA City in Zurich on July 11. His next concert is scheduled for July 26 at the MBank Summer Festival in Lodz, Poland.

In May, Tomlinson posted pictures from a recording studio, hinting at new music in the works. He captioned the post “Pura Vida,” a Spanish phrase meaning “pure life.”
