Taylor Fritz Reaches First Wimbledon Semifinal After Four-Set Win

American tennis player Taylor Fritz has advanced to his first Wimbledon semifinal after defeating Russia’s Karen Khachanov in four sets: 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4). The win marks a significant milestone in Fritz’s career and continues his strong grass-court season following recent titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne.

Fritz relied heavily on his powerful serve, hitting 16 aces and reaching speeds up to 138 mph. Throughout the tournament, he has maintained impressive statistics, including winning 86% of first-serve points and committing only seven double faults across matches.

However, the quarterfinal was not without challenges. Fritz struggled with a foot injury in the third set, which required medical attention for apparent blisters. His performance dropped as Khachanov seized control, winning eight of nine games during that stretch. Despite the setback, Fritz rallied from 0-2 in the fourth set and closed out the tiebreak to secure the win.

The match was also marked by a malfunction in Wimbledon’s Hawk-Eye system. In the fourth set, the system incorrectly called a fault on a Fritz shot that was clearly in. The point was replayed after the umpire intervened. Tournament officials later explained the system failed to reset properly due to a ball person crossing the court at the start of the point.

This is the latest in a series of Hawk-Eye issues at Wimbledon 2025, following a more serious error in a previous women’s match. Despite these problems, officials have defended the technology, which replaced human line judges this year.

Fritz will now prepare for his semifinal appearance as he seeks to become the first American man to win Wimbledon since Pete Sampras in 2000.
