Robert Pattinson as Batman

‘The Batman – Part II’ Script Receives Positive Review from James Gunn

James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios, has confirmed that he has read the script for The Batman – Part II and called it “great,” signaling strong support for the much-anticipated sequel. The film will continue director Matt Reeves gritty take on Gotham, with Robert Pattinson returning in the lead role.

Originally scheduled for release on October 3, 2025, the sequel has faced multiple delays. Warner Bros. has now officially set the new release date for October 1, 2027, creating a five-year gap since the original film’s release in 2022.

Filming is expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026, following final revisions to the script and completion of pre-production work. Plot details remain under wraps, but the film is confirmed to exist within the DC Elseworlds banner — a storytelling line separate from the main DC Universe continuity overseen by Gunn and Peter Safran.

The upcoming Penguin spin-off series, starring Colin Farrell, is set to tie directly into the sequel’s storyline, deepening the shared world Reeves is building. Reeves has also expressed interest in exploring more character-based spin-offs, potentially involving villains like Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg.

Despite its delays, Gunn’s positive remarks about the script indicate that The Batman – Part II remains a high priority within DC’s expanding film strategy. Fans can expect the film to further develop the noir tone and psychological depth that defined the first installment.
