British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran went from performing on the streets of Los Angeles to becoming one of the most successful musicians in the world — all within the span of a year.
Sheeran, who released his first independent album at the age of 13 in England, gained early recognition from music industry legends like Elton John. But it wasn’t until a spontaneous trip to Los Angeles in 2010 that his career truly took off.
The then-unknown artist travelled to LA with no set plan, hoping simply to explore opportunities. While there, he caught the attention of actor and musician Jamie Foxx, who was hosting a radio show at the time. Impressed by Sheeran’s talent, Foxx offered him a place to stay and access to his recording studio.
Foxx also introduced Sheeran to key music industry contacts and brought him to open mic events at major clubs. At one of these performances, Sheeran surprised a crowd with his red hair, ukulele, and unique sound — winning them over in just 12 minutes with a standing ovation.
Foxx later said, “It was just like a movie… and the rest was history.”
Following the buzz he built in LA, Sheeran was signed to Atlantic Records and Rocket Management, Elton John’s company. In 2011, he released his breakthrough album “+,” which achieved both critical and commercial success.
Since then, Sheeran has become a global star, known for hit songs like “Shape of You” and “Perfect” — the latter being the most searched guitar tab on the Ultimate Guitar website. He’s also widely admired for his live performances and songwriting abilities.
Now, nearly 15 years after his breakout moment, Sheeran is preparing to release his eighth studio album in September 2025. Three singles have already been released and have performed well on the charts.
His story, from busking and YouTube videos to sold-out arenas, remains a powerful example of what’s possible when raw talent meets the right opportunities.
