Costumes worn in the hit 2025 vampire thriller “Sinners” were originally created for Marvel’s long-delayed “Blade” reboot, according to the film’s producer Sev Ohanian. The behind-the-scenes detail was shared during a recent interview with ScreenCrush, where Ohanian called it a “fun Marvel easter egg.”

The costumes were designed by Ruth Carter, who had been working on “Blade” before the project was stalled. Ohanian explained that “Blade” was expected to include scenes set in an era similar to “Sinners.” When the Marvel film failed to move forward, Carter had a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothing. “Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price,” he said.

Many background actors in “Sinners” wore the repurposed Marvel costumes, while the main cast had original outfits made especially for them. The movie, directed by Ryan Coogler, stars Jayme Lawson, Wunmi Mosaku, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Caton, and Li Jun Li.

Since its release on April 18, “Sinners” has become a box office success, earning $364 million worldwide. It is now the eighth highest-grossing film of the year and the only original title in the top ten, as most are based on existing properties.

Marvel’s “Blade” reboot, first announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali as the lead, remains in development limbo. Recently, Ali told Variety he is still eager to take on the iconic role, saying, “Call Marvel… I’m ready.”
