CD PROJEKT RED has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is in production. The new anime series, a standalone story set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, will stream exclusively on Netflix.
The announcement came during a special panel at Anime Expo 2025. Fans got their first look at the series logo and poster art, signaling the beginning of a bold new chapter for the Cyberpunk anime world.
The series is once again being made in partnership with Studio TRIGGER, the team behind the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and other popular anime titles.
Kai Ikarashi, who worked on the first Edgerunners and SSSS.Gridman, will make his directorial debut with this series. Returning talents include Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer and Masahiko Otsuka handling the screenplay adaptation.
Bartosz Sztybor, a Hugo Award-winning writer, is back as the showrunner and producer. He appeared on the panel alongside Hiroyuki Imaishi, the legendary director, and voice actors Emi Lo (Lucy) and Zach Aguilar (David).
While the first season followed David’s story in Night City, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will focus on new characters and explore deeper themes of redemption and revenge. Sztybor teased a “raw, real chronicle” that will push the boundaries of the Cyberpunk universe.
Panel attendees were treated to exclusive teaser footage and behind-the-scenes content, offering early insight into what’s to come.
No official release date has been announced yet, but the show is currently in production and will be available only on Netflix.
