Filming for House of the Dragon Season 3 is in full swing, and new set photos are giving fans a look at one of the show’s biggest moments yet — the Battle of the Gullet.
The battle, which takes place near the island of Driftmark, shows a fierce clash between House Velaryon and the Triarchy pirates. Velaryon forces support Queen Rhaenyra, while the Triarchy sails for King Aegon II. As expected, dragons will be part of the fight.
Showrunner Ryan Condal described the scene as “probably the most complex sequence that’s ever been done for television.” Filming has been going on for weeks, mostly on the island of Anglesey in Wales.
Actor Abubakar Salim, who plays Alyn of Hull, shared a photo from the set with the caption, “It’s a lot.” A video from the same shoot shows Alyn in a rowboat, possibly searching for someone in the water.
More photos show bodies floating in the sea, likely those of Triarchy pirates. The battle causes major destruction, with ships shattered and lives lost. According to George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, at least one important character dies in this fight.
At the same time, the crew is building another major set in Surrey, England. This one shows a military camp belonging to Ormund Hightower, a new character played by James Norton. Fans might also see Daeron Targaryen for the first time here.
Season 3 is shaping up to be a big one, with multiple battles and new characters. House of the Dragon will return on HBO and Max in 2026.
