Apple released the second public beta of iOS 18.6 and iPadOS 18.6 on Tuesday. The update comes just one day after Apple gave the same betas to developers.
How to Download
Public beta testers can download iOS 18.6 and iPadOS 18.6 now. Users who signed up for beta updates through Apple’s beta website can get the update from their device’s Settings app.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update to download the beta. The update is available for compatible iPhones and iPads enrolled in the public beta program.
macOS Beta Also Available
Apple also released the second beta of macOS Sequoia 15.6 for public testers. This update follows the same timeline as the iOS and iPadOS betas.
What’s New in iOS 18.6
The iOS 18.6 update focuses mainly on bug fixes and small improvements. No major new features have been found in the developer betas so far.
The update will bring additional changes to the App Store in the European Union. These changes help Apple comply with EU regulations for app distribution.
Beyond the EU App Store modifications, iOS 18.6 likely includes performance improvements and fixes for existing issues. Apple typically uses these smaller updates to address bugs and stability problems.
No Major Features Found
Neither iOS 18.6 nor macOS Sequoia 15.6 appears to include significant new features. The updates seem focused on maintenance and minor enhancements rather than big changes.
This approach is typical for point updates between major iOS releases. Apple saves major features for bigger version updates.
Looking Ahead to iOS 26
Apple is also testing iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe. These major updates are currently limited to developers only.
Public betas for iOS 26 and related operating systems will be available soon. These updates will likely include more significant features and changes compared to iOS 18.6.
Beta Testing Program
Apple’s public beta program lets users test upcoming software before official release. Testers help Apple find bugs and issues before the final version reaches all users.
The program is free but requires signing up through Apple’s beta website. Beta software can be unstable, so Apple recommends installing it on secondary devices rather than primary phones or tablets.
iOS 18.6 will likely receive a final release in the coming weeks after Apple completes testing and addresses any remaining issues found by beta testers.
