Olivia Rodrigo at Glastonbury 2025

Glastonbury Fans Call Olivia Rodrigo Headliner ‘Biggest Mistake Ever’

Glastonbury fans have slammed the festival’s decision to have Olivia Rodrigo headline the final night, calling it the “biggest mistake” in the event’s history.

The 22-year-old American singer-songwriter closed out Glastonbury 2025 on the famous Pyramid Stage on Sunday night. But many viewers wanted electronic music legends The Prodigy to get the top billing instead.

Fans Demand Prodigy Should Have Headlined

Social media exploded with criticism as both acts performed at the same time on different stages. The Prodigy played the Other Stage while Rodrigo took the main Pyramid Stage spot.

“Who was responsible for putting Olivia Rodrigo over the Prodigy on the pyramid stage? You just made the biggest mistake of your career,” one angry fan wrote on Twitter.

Another said: “The Prodigy should have been on the pyramid stage. End of.”

Some fans went further with their criticism. “If you’re watching Olivia Rodrigo instead of The Prodigy right now, you deserve to be banned from every music venue across the globe,” one user posted.

Rodrigo Performs Hit Songs and Special Guest

Despite the backlash, Rodrigo delivered a full set of her biggest hits. She performed songs including “Good 4 U,” “Drivers License,” and “Vampire” to the massive crowd.

The pop star also brought out a special guest – The Cure’s Robert Smith joined her for a duet of the 1992 classic “Friday, I’m in Love.”

During her performance, Rodrigo told the crowd that headlining Glastonbury was a “dream come true.”

Many Fans Defend Young Headliner

Not everyone criticized the booking decision. Many festival-goers and viewers praised Rodrigo’s performance and defended her right to headline.

“Seen my share of Glasto headline sets in my time and that Olivia Rodrigo set is up there you know. Doing that at 22 is nuts. She’s a superstar,” one supporter wrote.

Another pointed to the crowd response: “Prodigy are great but, I think by the looks of the crowd, people know who Olivia Rodrigo is. They’re singing every word.”

The 200,000-strong festival crowd appeared engaged throughout her set, singing along to her songs.

Critics Change Their Minds

Some fans admitted they were initially skeptical about Rodrigo headlining at such a young age but changed their opinion after watching her perform.

“Headlining Glastonbury at 22 years old. Calling it Glasto. Full live band, special guests, set ups like this. Olivia Rodrigo absolutely smashed it. Pyramid headliner fully deserved,” one convert wrote.

Others said they were “proved wrong” by her performance after being doubtful about the booking.

End of an Era

The controversy marks the end of Glastonbury 2025. The festival will not return until 2027, as organizers confirmed there will be no event in 2026.

This year’s festival also featured other talking points, including Lewis Capaldi’s dramatic return to performing and The 1975’s headline set that reportedly underwhelmed audiences.

The debate over Rodrigo versus The Prodigy highlights ongoing discussions about generational differences in music and what deserves top billing at major festivals.
