Fans Call on Disney to Fast-Track Eragon Series After How to Train Your Dragon’s Success

Fans are calling on Disney to prioritize its long-delayed Eragon adaptation following the success of How to Train Your Dragon‘s live-action remake, which premiered in June 2025.

The remake, featuring Mason Thames as Hiccup and realistic CGI dragons, impressed critics and audiences alike. Its strong box office performance has already led to a sequel going into development.

Now, attention is turning to Disney’s forgotten fantasy projectEragon, based on Christopher Paolini’s best-selling book series The Inheritance Cycle. A Disney+ TV adaptation was announced in 2022, but since then, updates have been few. Fans only received one public reassurance from Paolini in 2024 that the project was still happening.

The 2006 Eragon movie was widely criticized for straying from the source material and using underwhelming visual effects. But fans believe now is the perfect time for redemption. With current technology and successful examples like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and the new How to Train Your Dragon, a properly made Eragon series is now more possible than ever.

Both Eragon and How to Train Your Dragon focus on strong bonds between dragons and riders, emotional storytelling, and high-stakes adventures. If done right, Eragon could attract fans looking for a deeper and more mature fantasy experience.

As Percy Jackson and the Olympians gains momentum on Disney+, and DreamWorks continues expanding its dragon universe, many believe the time is right for Disney to finally move Eragon out of limbo and into production.
