Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy in The Boys, provided an update on Season 5 filming that hints at the show’s release timeline. The actor revealed he recently finished his work on the final season.
In an interview with CBR, Ackles said he completed filming on June 10th. “I just finished The Boys on Tuesday, and I think I’ve got all my stuff done. But I don’t know. You never know. They might have to bring me back for some other stuff,” he shared.
The fifth season began production in November 2024, making it nearly eight months of filming so far.
Possible 2026 Release Date
Based on Ackles’ comments and previous hints from the cast, The Boys Season 5 could premiere in June 2026. Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, suggested in a July 2024 Instagram post that Season 5 would arrive in 2026.
The show has maintained a relatively consistent release pattern in recent years. Season 3 debuted on June 3, 2022, followed by Season 4 on June 13, 2024. This suggests a June 2026 release date is realistic for the final season.
Prime Video has not officially announced the release date yet.
Soldier Boy’s Return Confirmed
The Season 4 finale’s post-credits scene confirmed Soldier Boy would return for the final season. Homelander discovered that Soldier Boy was still alive and being held captive by the U.S. government.
This revelation set up Ackles’ return for Season 5, where his character will likely play a significant role in the show’s conclusion.
Supernatural Reunion
Ackles previously worked with The Boys creator Eric Kripke on Supernatural. Two of his former co-stars from that show, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, have joined the Season 5 cast.
Other returning cast members include Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, and Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk. The final season will wrap up the story that began when the show premiered on Prime Video in July 2019.
