Meta Announces New Oakley Smart Glasses with 3K Camera and 8-Hour Battery

Meta has revealed its next generation of smart glasses in partnership with Oakley. The limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN model, priced at $499, will be available for preorder starting July 11. Additional Oakley smart glasses featuring Meta’s technology will launch later this summer, starting at $399.

Similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, the new Oakley models include a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and built-in microphones. Once connected to a phone, users can listen to music or podcasts, make calls, or interact with Meta AI. The AI can answer questions about the wearer’s surroundings and translate languages in real time using the glasses’ camera and microphones.

Designed with athletes in mind, the Oakley smart glasses offer an IPX4 water resistance rating and boast double the battery life of the Meta Ray-Bans. Users get up to 8 hours of use per charge, with a charging case providing an additional 48 hours. The camera captures video in 3K resolution, a significant upgrade from the 1080p of the previous model.

The lineup includes five frame and lens options, compatible with prescription lenses for an added cost. Frame colors include warm grey, black, brown smoke, and clear. The limited-edition $499 HSTN model features gold accents and Oakley PRIZM lenses.

These glasses will be sold across the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Meta recently expanded its partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Oakley and Ray-Ban, aiming to sell 10 million smart glasses annually by 2026.

Meta’s wearable lead, Alex Himel, said this launch marks their first step into the performance category, with more products expected to come.
