Google Temporarily Removes Unsubscribe Button in Messages App

25
Google Messages

Google recently introduced a new unsubscribe button in its Messages app to help users quickly opt out of unwanted promotional and spam messages. The feature allowed users to stop unwanted messages directly from the conversation thread, making it easier to reduce spam.

However, Google has now pulled this unsubscribe button for some users, disabling it in certain regions or accounts. The company has not provided an official reason, but this appears to be a temporary rollback, possibly due to technical problems or user feedback.

While the unsubscribe button is unavailable, users can still rely on Google Messages’ traditional spam filtering and reporting tools. Without the quick unsubscribe option, users must manually block or report spam senders to manage unwanted messages.

This situation highlights the ongoing challenge for messaging platforms in balancing user convenience with effective spam prevention and meeting regulatory requirements. It is unclear when or if Google will bring back the unsubscribe button for all users after resolving these issues.
