A new leak suggests that Grand Theft Auto 6 might include full underwater exploration, marking a major shift for the popular video game series. If true, this feature could completely change how players explore the game’s world.
In past GTA games, water mostly acted as a barrier. In GTA 3, falling into deep water meant instant death. GTA San Andreas allowed players to swim and dive, but the underwater world was mostly empty. GTA 5 improved this by adding sharks, sunken ships, and collectibles, but the underwater areas were still minor side activities, not a major part of the story or gameplay.
With GTA 6, that could change. The game’s map is rumored to feature Vice City, a location based on Miami, Florida. Since Miami is known for its beaches and oceans, it makes sense that Rockstar might finally embrace the underwater world in a bigger way.
According to leaks, underwater areas in GTA 6 could be filled with hidden loot, underwater tunnels, and secret escape routes. Players might explore coral reefs, sunken boats, or even use submarines for missions. Rockstar could use bubbles, wildlife, or signs to guide players to hidden treasures.
This leak also fits with other rumors about GTA 6 having over 700 buildings that players can enter, along with working malls and more character-switching options. It shows that Rockstar is trying to make the world more detailed and alive, not just on land but also underwater.
If this feature is real, it would be one of the biggest changes to the series in years. GTA 5 already changed open-world games with its character-switching feature. Now, GTA 6 could make the ocean just as exciting to explore as the streets of Vice City.
Rockstar Games has not confirmed this leak yet, but if true, underwater exploration could be one of GTA 6’s best and most surprising features when the game launches in May 2026.
