Star Wars may have quietly confirmed the origin of Jedi Master Yoda, and most fans didn’t notice.
For years, Star Wars has kept Yoda’s backstory a mystery. Fans often wonder where he came from, who trained him, and why he talks the way he does. Now, a new clue might answer part of that mystery.
The hint comes from the 2024 Star Wars comic Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss. In that comic, the name N’Kata Del Gormo appears again. This character is a Hysalrian Jedi Master who, according to old stories, trained Yoda before he joined the Jedi Order.
This is not the first time N’Kata Del Gormo’s name has been mentioned. The character was first introduced in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine back in 1996 as part of Legends, meaning it wasn’t considered official canon. But by mentioning him again in a recent comic, Star Wars may have brought that lore back into canon.
There’s also been talk about Yoda’s speech. Fans noticed that Yaddle, another member of Yoda’s species, speaks normally. That raised the question—why does Yoda speak in his unique style? In an interview, Star Wars creator Dave Filoni said that Yoda’s way of speaking might be his way of honoring his old master, possibly N’Kata Del Gormo.
Right now, nothing is officially confirmed by Lucasfilm, and this information could still be considered speculation. Many fans actually prefer the mystery, believing that Yoda’s unknown origin adds to his character’s charm.
For now, Yoda’s past remains mostly a secret, but with more comics and shows on the way, that could change in the future.
