P Nation’s New Girl Group Baby DONT Cry Sparks Name Controversy

P Nation has launched its first girl group, Baby DONT Cry. The group consists of four members and was produced by (G)I-dle’s Soyeon. They recently shared their first concept teaser and opened official social media channels to start promotions.

The teaser shows a vintage, girly yet edgy and stylish concept. The group’s symbol is four cherries, representing the four members. Their pre-release song is expected on June 16, and their official debut is scheduled for June 23 at 6 PM KST.

While many fans are excited about the new group and Soyeon’s involvement, some have criticized the group’s name, Baby DONT Cry.

The official hashtag shortens the name to “BDC,” which is the same abbreviation used by a former boy group under Brand New Music. Even though that group disbanded, many feel reusing the abbreviation shows a lack of respect for the earlier group and their fans.

Others pointed out that “Baby Don’t Cry” is also the title of a song by girl group Cosmosy, releasing soon, and is a well-known EXO track. This has caused confusion and debate over the choice of the group’s name.

Netizens shared various opinions like:

  • Why reuse BDC when the name already exists?
  • It’s sad for former BDC fans to see this.
  • The name sounds awkward in Korean pronunciation.
  • The vibe seems nice, but the name is disappointing.
  • The group name overlaps too much with other artists.

Despite the mixed reactions to the name, many fans are curious about the group’s music and concept and are looking forward to their debut.
