Here’s What to Expect from Apple Intelligence in iOS 26

iOS 26

Apple is set to unveil major improvements to its Apple Intelligence system at WWDC 2025, focusing on powerful new AI features in iOS 26.

While many exciting tools are on the way, some long-awaited updates — like a smarter Siri — are still not ready.

What’s Coming in iOS 26

1. Stronger Apple Intelligence Models

Apple has built new foundation models, including a powerful 150-billion-parameter version that works in the cloud. These models power AI features like Writing Tools, Genmoji, and text summarization.

2. Developers Get Access (With Limits)

For the first time, developers can use Apple’s AI models to add smart features — like summaries and writing suggestions — to their apps. But for now, they can only access on-device models, not the more advanced cloud-based ones.

3. Systemwide Translation

Apple’s Translate app is expanding. Translation will now work in messages, phone calls, and may soon support live AirPods conversations.

4. Genmoji Fusion

Users will be able to combine two emojis to create a new AI-generated emoji, adding fun and creativity to messaging.

5. Smarter Shortcuts

The Shortcuts app will use Apple Intelligence to understand natural language commands and turn them into custom automations more easily.

6. AI-Powered Battery Saving Mode

A new smart battery mode will use machine learning to adjust settings in real time, helping phones — especially the upcoming iPhone 17 Air — last longer on a charge.

7. Revamped Xcode with Third-Party AI

Apple’s coding tool, Xcode, will now support third-party AI models like Anthropic’s Claude. This replaces Apple’s earlier, less reliable Swift Assist system.

What’s Not Coming (Yet)

🚫 No New Siri (Yet)

The revamped Siri, powered by large language models, is still a year away. It won’t be part of iOS 26 and won’t appear at WWDC this year.

🚫 No Google Gemini Integration

Talks between Apple and Google to bring Gemini AI tools to iOS are ongoing, but no deal has been reached. A Gemini announcement may come later in 2025.

🚫 No AI Upgrades for Calendar or Health Apps

AI-powered features for Calendar and a “Mulberry” Health assistant were delayed. They are now planned for iOS 27 and macOS 27 in 2026.

🔍 Summary

Apple is going big on AI with iOS 26 — offering smarter writing tools, live translation, emoji fusion, and better automation. But if you’re waiting for a new Siri or smart health tools, you’ll have to wait a bit longer.
