SEVENTEEN has become the world’s most successful K-pop group, overtaking BTS in global album sales.
The 13-member boy band recently ranked in the top three globally, alongside stars like Taylor Swift and Drake. They also outsold big names such as Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and The Weeknd.
Since debuting in 2015, SEVENTEEN has grown massively. Their latest album, Happy Burstday, sold over 2.2 million copies on its first day. Their Asia tour earned $98.4 million from just 24 shows, making it the highest-grossing K-pop tour of 2023–2024.
SEVENTEEN is part of the HYBE label, which also manages BTS. Despite their current success, some members are preparing for South Korea’s mandatory military service, which may slow group activities.
Meanwhile, BTS is focused on solo projects. They plan a full group comeback later this year or in 2026. Their 2022 anthology album Proof sold 2.75 million copies in its first week.
SEVENTEEN’s rise shows new K-pop stars are ready to take the global stage as BTS prepares to return.
