Microsoft is preparing to release Windows 11 version 25H2 later this year, continuing its yearly schedule of major OS updates.
Although not officially announced yet, the 25H2 version has already appeared in preview builds and documentation, confirming it’s on the way.
Release Timeline
Microsoft typically rolls out new Windows 11 versions in the second half of the year, often around September or October. Like previous updates, 25H2 will follow a phased rollout, meaning not all users will see it right away.
Once installed, Windows 11 25H2 will reset the support clock, offering 24 months of updates and security patches.
What’s New in 25H2
The 25H2 update is not expected to bring a new platform version. Instead, it will build on the Germanium platform introduced with 24H2, likely arriving as a smaller enablement or cumulative update. This means a faster installation process, similar to a routine security update.
New Features in the Works
Microsoft hasn’t confirmed exclusive 25H2 features yet, but several in-development features could be included:
- A redesigned Start menu with more customization options
- An AI-powered assistant in the Settings app
- Other improvements under the hood based on feedback and ongoing innovation
Thanks to Microsoft’s “continuous innovation” strategy, many features roll out before version updates, making fall releases lighter but more refined.
