Miley Cyrus Surprises Fans by Singing ‘The Climb’ Live for First Time in Years

Miley Cyrus surprised fans by performing the Hannah Montana hit “The Climb” live for the first time in years during a private concert on May 27. The intimate event, held at the Chateau Marmont, celebrated the release of her new album, Something Beautiful.

Cyrus teased the audience, saying, “I’m not singing ‘The Climb’ but I could,” before the crowd erupted as pianist Michael Pollack began the familiar chords. She sang the song with a playful spirit, stopping to ask the crowd if they knew the words.

The 32-year-old pop star joked that her boyfriend and drummer, Maxx Morando, “had been waiting since middle school” to play the song. This marked a rare public performance of the ballad from Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009).

The event featured songs from her new album as well as other hits like “End of the World,” “More to Lose,” “Easy Lover,” and “Flowers.” Cyrus described Something Beautiful as reflective of her current life and experiences.

Cyrus recently reflected on her Hannah Montana days while accepting her Disney Legend honor last August, expressing pride in her past role.

The new album, her ninth studio release, came out on May 30 and will be accompanied by a visual film premiering on June 6 at the Tribeca Film Festival. It follows her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation, which earned her six Grammy nominations and two wins.

Fans at the private event included Cyrus’ family and close friends, such as Tish and Brandi Cyrus and actress Anya Taylor-Joy. The performance was a special treat ahead of the album’s official launch.
