Car Crashes Into Crowd at Liverpool FC Celebration

On Monday evening, a car drove into a large crowd celebrating Liverpool F.C.’s Premier League win. Nearly 50 people were hurt, including four children.

The crash happened on Water Street near the end of the parade route. Videos show the dark-colored car swerving into the crowd and hitting many people. Some were trapped under the car. Bystanders tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped up and kept hitting people.

The police arrested a 53-year-old white man from Liverpool. They believe he was the driver. The police said this was an isolated incident and they are not treating it as terrorism.

Of the injured, 27 people went to hospitals. Four are very seriously ill. Twenty others were treated at the scene for minor injuries. A paramedic on a bicycle was also hit but was not badly hurt.

Liverpool’s mayor said he hopes the seriously injured recover soon. Officials have not yet named any victims.

Many leaders sent messages of support. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “The whole country stands with Liverpool.” King Charles called the event “deeply shocking and sad” and praised the city’s strong community spirit.

Liverpool F.C. said it is working closely with the police and supporting emergency workers as they handle the situation.
