Denise Gough, who portrayed the ambitious Dedra Meero in Andor, has expressed her satisfaction with her character’s fate in the series finale. As the show wrapped up its second season, Dedra’s arc came to a shocking and fitting conclusion, and Gough couldn’t be happier about it.
In the final moments of Andor Season 2, Dedra, who had worked her way up the ranks of the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), ended up a prisoner in Narkina 5, the same brutal prison where Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) was incarcerated in Season 1.
After months of pursuit and confrontation with key figures like Luthen Rael, Dedra’s reign ended when she was arrested for her unauthorized actions against Luthen, which ultimately led to her downfall.
Speaking to TVLine, Gough revealed that she was “so happy” with Dedra’s fate, particularly with how the character’s arc played out. “It’s so gratifying,” the Irish actress shared. “Because you can’t have a character like that just get away with [the things she did].”
Gough went on to express her relief that Dedra wasn’t killed off. Instead, she found a fitting end in the cold confines of a prison cell. “I’m really glad that we get to see her in that uniform, in that Narkina 5 [cell],” Gough said.
Her co-star, Kyle Soller, who played Syril Karn, Dedra’s partner, echoed her sentiments, describing the imagery of Dedra, a character obsessed with control, being placed in such a controlled environment as “amazing” and “brilliant.”
With Dedra’s journey coming full circle in the finale, Gough believes it was the perfect conclusion for a character who has been a major part of the Andor story. Fans are left to wonder if this is truly the end for Dedra, or if her fate will be explored further in potential future seasons of the show.
