Spotify has updated its AI DJ feature to accept voice requests, giving Premium users more control over what gets played.
Starting today, Premium subscribers can press and hold the AI DJ button—located at the bottom right of the feature—and speak commands to personalize the music queue. Once you hear a beep, you can request things like “play some electronic beats for a midday run” or “surprise me with indie tracks I’ve never heard.”
Previously, the DJ button simply shuffled through curated suggestions without letting you steer the vibe. Now you can ask for specific artists, genres, or moods, much like the AI Playlist tool Spotify introduced in beta last year. Quirky prompts like “music to soundtrack my life as a movie” are also supported.
Spotify says this is the only way to guide the AI DJ’s selections right now. However, it might not be ideal in environments where talking aloud isn’t convenient.
If you have a specific track in mind, it’s still faster to search manually. But for users who want a more personalized experience on the fly, Spotify’s AI DJ just got a lot more interactive.
