A new leak about the PS5 Pro suggests that Sony is developing an upgrade to its PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology, with significant enhancements expected for resolution scaling and image quality.

According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, a YouTuber known for accurate PS5 Pro leaks, the upcoming PSSR 2 update will provide support for 4K gaming at 120 FPS and 8K at 60 FPS, with additional support for 1440p and 1080p locked at 120 FPS.

Sony also reportedly aims to improve the system’s ability to upscale from lower resolutions, such as 720p, 540p, and 360p, allowing for higher performance in certain games.

PSSR 2 could also serve as a viable alternative to TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing), providing improved image quality in games that are enhanced for PS5 Pro.

As the leaker points out, the new iteration would make upscaling from base resolutions lower than 864p look much better, addressing concerns over image quality when scaling from such resolutions.

Sony is also working on MFSR, an internal acronym for PSSR, which would upscale to higher frame rates for a smoother gaming experience.

The PSSR 2 update is set to be part of the PS5 Pro‘s ongoing push to improve gaming performance for next-generation experiences, further solidifying the console’s role as a cutting-edge platform for both graphics and gameplay.
