Valve Introduces SteamOS Compatibility Ratings for Third-Party Devices

Valve has announced a new compatibility rating system that shows if games work properly on SteamOS-based devices, starting with the upcoming Lenovo Legion Go S.

This new feature will help users know whether a game is “SteamOS Compatible” or “SteamOS Unsupported” when using devices other than the Steam Deck. The label will appear in both the Steam Store and the Steam Client on supported devices.

Valve says the rating only checks software compatibility—not performance or controls—since third-party hardware can vary widely. However, it still ensures users know if a game will run and if its anti-cheat systems work with SteamOS.

The company expects over 18,000 games to be marked as SteamOS compatible at launch. These ratings are automatically generated using data from Steam Deck’s compatibility system. Game developers won’t need to make any changes or updates for their titles to be included.

The Lenovo Legion Go S, launching later this month, will be the first handheld gaming PC to ship with SteamOS instead of Windows, making Valve’s new rating system especially timely.
