A recent claim from a GTA 6 leaker suggests that the game’s delay may have been a necessary step to ensure its quality, preventing the release of a “significantly worse” version of the game.

The highly anticipated GTA 6 has faced a prolonged development period, with fans eagerly waiting for any updates since its announcement in 2023. After Rockstar Games unveiled a new trailer for the game, excitement was high.

However, the news of GTA 6’s delay to May 2026 left many fans disappointed. While some questioned why Rockstar chose to push the release date so far, a leaker known as GameRoll, who previously revealed details about the game’s protagonists, claims that the delay was essential.

GameRoll, although not an official insider, noted that Rockstar had begun cutting features earlier this year in order to meet the original fall 2025 release window. The leaker suggests that without the extra time provided by the delay, the game would have been “significantly worse.”

While they didn’t disclose which features were removed, it seems clear that Rockstar prioritized refining the core experience over rushing to meet an unrealistic deadline.

The game’s developers have also made efforts to avoid the crunch culture that has plagued previous titles. Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg journalist, previously reported that Rockstar is trying to prevent excessive overtime, which has caused issues on past projects.

By pushing the release back, Rockstar is able to avoid putting developers through harsh conditions and deliver a more polished final product.

While some fans expressed concerns over content cuts, it’s not unusual for games to undergo changes in development, especially as studios strive to deliver the best possible experience.

Previous titles, like Red Dead Redemption 2, saw significant content removed before release, which some fans hope might be reintroduced through post-launch updates or DLC.

With GTA 6 now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the final product. However, this extra time may just be what the game needs to meet the high expectations set by Rockstar’s previous releases.
