OpenAI is reportedly working on its own social media platform, according to a new report from The Verge.
The project is still in early development, but there is already a working prototype. This version includes a social feed focused on content created with ChatGPT’s image generation tools.
It is not yet known if OpenAI will launch the platform as a new standalone app or if it will be part of the existing ChatGPT app. However, the project signals a major shift for the company.
By entering the social media space, OpenAI could compete directly with platforms like Elon Musk’s X and Meta’s Facebook and Instagram. It would also give OpenAI access to live user data, something that other major platforms already use to improve their AI systems.
Reports also say that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been privately seeking feedback about the idea from people outside the company.
While there is no confirmation that the project will launch publicly, the internal testing shows that OpenAI is exploring new ways to expand beyond its current tools.
