Marvel Studios has confirmed that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will not appear in any live-action Disney+ series due to Sony Pictures’ exclusive rights over the character’s long-form television appearances.
Why Spider-Man Is Missing from Disney+ Live-Action Shows
Sony Pictures owns the live-action television rights to Spider-Man, while Marvel Studios can only use the character in movies or animated projects under certain agreements.
Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, clarified that they can only produce 30-minute animated content featuring Spider-Man.
Marvel’s Animated Workaround
To keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) on Disney+, Marvel created the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
The show premiered on January 29, 2025, with Hudson Thames voicing Peter Parker and Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil.
What’s Next for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man?
While Spider-Man won’t appear in live-action Disney+ shows, Tom Holland will return in the fourth Spider-Man film set for July 24, 2026.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie will follow Peter Parker’s journey after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Could Spider-Man Join Sony’s TV Universe?
Sony could potentially create its own live-action Spider-Man TV series or integrate the character into its Venom and Morbius universe. However, no such project has been officially announced.
Despite the legal hurdles, Spider-Man’s future in the MCU remains strong with new animated projects and big-screen appearances on the horizon.
