Rockstar Games is planning a new feature called ‘Project ROME‘ for Grand Theft Auto 6 that might change gaming forever. This system would let players modify the game world and add their own content.
‘Project ROME’ stands for ‘Rockstar Online Modding Engine.’ It would allow creators to change the game environment and bring their own ideas into GTA’s virtual world. Industry reports say Rockstar has been talking with top creators from Fortnite and Roblox about this feature.
Similar to Fortnite, GTA 6 could get map changes and new locations through regular updates. The goal is to turn GTA 6 into “a platform, not just a game,” where players create their own experiences.
In 2023, Rockstar bought FiveM, a popular modding platform for GTA 5. This move showed Rockstar’s interest in player-created content.
“It will occupy that adult space at the top of the ecosystem; there’s a natural place for people that graduate from Roblox and Minecraft,” says Pete Basgen from Wavemaker agency.
GTA 6 is set to release in autumn 2025, with Lucia as the main character.
